Softball Game Preview: Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley vs. Karns City Gremlins

Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley will venture away from home to take on the Karns City Gremlins at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley has given up an average of 15.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came up short against Keystone on Thursday, falling 30-19. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (11), Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, Karns City waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Mustangs.

Addison Burrows made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Burrows wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nicole Huff, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. Huff has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Karns City's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Karns City in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
