League recap: Pearl enters state Top 25

5A Region 2 recap September 10, 2013

Pearl was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Northwest Rankin. The Pirates came in at 18 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.

Lanier lost to Amanda Elzy 67-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Parker Lohman and Jabril Haymon gave Ridgeland a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Lohman threw for 204 yards and 4 touchdowns, while Haymon ran for 177 yards. Lohman also contributed to the rushing game with 41 yards on the ground.

Lohman and Haymon gave the Titans a balanced attack through the air and ground last week.

Demorrious Brown was the best wideout in 5A Region 2 this week as Pearl beat the Cougars. Brown racked up 4 receptions for 79 yards. Thomas Cameron helped Pearl's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 28 yards.

Haymon was the most successful running back in the league this week.

Lohman put up the best numbers in passing as Ridgeland defeated Terry. Lohman's favorite target this week was Xavier Marion, who caught 3 passes for 52 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Kenny Burton's team's Lohman and Marion have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Lohman has thrown for 531 yards this season, while Marion has 22 catches for 273 yards. John Perry's team's Jordan Wright leads the league in rushing yards with 282.

Callaway led 5A Region 2 in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Provine. Chris Mitchell threw for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 23 yards during the win.
