Recap: La Mirada Matadores vs. Warren Bears

If The La Mirada Matadores were riding high off their 34-13 takedown of the Norwalk Lancers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. La Mirada took a serious blow against Warren on Friday, falling 40-6. Having soared to a lofty 34 points in the game before, La Mirada couldn't push the score so high this time.

La Mirada's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jordan Lauago, who picked up 103 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Santino Garcia who threw for 159 yards and a touchdown.

Leading Warren to victory were Madden Iamaleava and Jordan Ross. Iamaleava threw for 321 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, while Ross picked up 194 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Ross is on a roll when it comes to receiving touchdowns, as he's now hauled in two or more in the last three games he's played. Lynnden Hodge and his 116 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Warren's win.

The team's defense also helped out by holding La Mirada to a paltry 184 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Warren's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was JT Houston and his two sacks.

La Mirada's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Warren, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

La Mirada will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Downey at 7:00 p.m. on October 26th. Downey presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than La Mirada in California (Downey is ranked 107th, while La Mirada is ranked 307th). As for Warren, they will be playing at home against Dominguez at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
