Basketball Recap: Westlake Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

Westlake waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the East Coweta Indians 82-62. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Westlake was led to victory by Charles Matthews and Amare Jackson. Matthews went 8 for 18 on his way to 23 points and three steals, while Jackson went 6 of 8 en route to 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Amir Eichelberger was another key player, putting up 12 points and seven boards.

Westlake was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Coweta only racked up seven assists.

East Coweta's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Qwes Williams, who went 5 for 8 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Towns, who posted 11 points.

Westlake pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for East Coweta, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-7.

Westlake and East Coweta should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. Westlake will square off against Carrollton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday up 312 places (29 vs. 341). Westlake is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.5 points per game this season. Similarly, East Coweta (ranked 87th) will meet Douglas County (ranked 297th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
