Baseball Game Preview: Taylorsville Tartars vs. West Union Eagles

For the second straight game, Taylorsville will face off against West Union. The Tartars will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Taylorsville has won seven straight at home, while West Union won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.

Taylorsville heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Tuesday. They fell just short of West Union by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tartars have suffered since February 28th.

For West Union's part, Jon Grey Morrisson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up six Ks. Morrisson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gavin Foley was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

West Union has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Taylorsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-12.

Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Taylorsville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. However, it's not like West Union struggles in that department as they've averaged .439. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
