Basketball Recap: Leyna Mcclinon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Thomas Jefferson over Denver North

Thomas Jefferson lost against Denver North back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Thomas Jefferson Spartans fell to the Denver North Vikings 56-50. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Thomas Jefferson lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Leyna McClinon, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Anisa Adrovic, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Thomas Jefferson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Denver North to victory, but perhaps none more so than Adriana Ortiz, who earned 20 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. With that strong performance, Ortiz is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Eden Gutierrez was another key player, putting up 16 points and three steals.

Thomas Jefferson's record is now 7-13. As for Denver North, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season.

While Thomas Jefferson had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
