Basketball Game Preview: Overton Bobcats vs. Hillsboro Burros

Overton is 0-10 against Hillsboro since February of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Overton Bobcats will welcome the Hillsboro Burros at 7:30 p.m. Overton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Overton came up short against Cane Ridge and fell 60-47. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Ravens are ranked 76th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Tahj McLemore, who posted ten points in addition to six boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of William Livingston, who earned nine points.

Even though they lost, Overton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Hillsboro over Hunters Lane in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Hillsboro blew Hunters Lane out of the water with a 68-26 final score. That 42 point margin sets a new team best for the Burros this season.

Hillsboro is also on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for Overton, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

Overton suffered a grim 68-44 defeat to Hillsboro in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hillsboro's Cortez Graham, who went 6 of 9 en route to 15 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Now that Overton knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
