Softball Recap: Valley Christian Has No Trouble Against Whittier Christian

Valley Christian hadn't done well against Whittier Christian recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Defenders put the hurt on the Heralds with a sharp 14-1 victory. Considering the Defenders have won ten matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Rachel Zhang tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Valley Christian got a massive performance out of Choyce Chambers, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Britton Brown, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Valley Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whittier Christian only posted an OBP of .211.

The win made it two in a row for Valley Christian and bumps their season record up to 14-4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Whittier Christian, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valley Christian will venture away from home to square off against Saint Joseph at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Defenders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jesters have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Whittier Christian, they are taking a road trip to face off against Heritage Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
