Baseball Game Preview: Florence Falcons vs. Central Wildcats

Florence has gone a perfect 7-0 against Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Florence will head out on the road to face off against Central at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Florence fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Brooks on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions.

Remington Montgomery was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Henry Thomas Blanke made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Carter Graves also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Meanwhile, Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Maryville. That's two games in a row now that the Wildcats have lost by just one run.

Central's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Florence, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-12.

Florence skirted past Central 4-3 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Florence since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
