Softball Recap: Evergreen Comes Up Short

Evergreen extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They came up short against the Kelso Hilanders, falling 13-0. If the Plainsmen were looking for revenge after losing 7-2 to the Hilanders when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Kelso, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The game marked their most dominant win of the season.

For Kelso's part, Paityn Mackin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mackin has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Kylie Killett looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Skylar Richie was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Karsyn Hall was another key player, earning one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Evergreen has already played their next matchup (against Mountain View), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Kelso will be paying especially close attention to the Plainsmen's contest: after the Plainsmen face off against Prairie, they'll take on Kelso again at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
