Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Lathrop's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Lathrop's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Johansen Vikings a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Spartans have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Maci De Costa made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. De Costa was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Tianna Gonzalez was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aubree Martinez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Lathrop was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lathrop is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. Johansen dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Lathrop will square off against rival Livingston at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Johansen is set to challenge their familiar foe Central Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
