Softball Recap: Fort Chiswell Victorious

Fort Chiswell was handed a 16-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the George Wythe Maroons 2-1. The victory continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Maroons: they've now won three in a row.

Blair Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

Fort Chiswell now has a winning record of 4-3. As for George Wythe, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Chiswell will challenge Galax at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Maroon Tide have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for George Wythe, they will take on Grayson County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Maroons are facing the Blue Devils at the right time seeing as the Blue Devils are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
