Sangre de Cristo dropped down to 4-2 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a blow against the Fowler Grizzlies, falling 66-22. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thunderbirds of the 54-14 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Sangre de Cristo lost, don't look at Kolby Shellabarger. Despite the final result, he rushed for 163 yards and two scores on only 11 carries, and also picked up 48 receiving yards. Deklin Beiriger helped out on the ground, rushing for 103 yards and a rushing touchdown.

As for Fowler, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-3 record. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 29.2 points per game.

Fowler was led to victory by Brock True and Bronson Damgaard. True rushed for 197 yards and three TDs on only six carries, while Damgaard rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries. Those 201 rushing yards gave Damgaard a new career-high. Daniel Adams was another key player, rushing for 66 yards and one score.

Sangre de Cristo has already played their next game, a 44-36 loss against Hoehne on the 11th. As for Fowler, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-6 win against Custer County on the 10th.
