West Central came out on top against Lafayette Jefferson on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Trojans put the hurt on the Bronchos with a sharp 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Jalie Glasford spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Sydney Mellon and Brooklynn Lattimore did most of the damage at the plate: Mellon went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Lattimore went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Lattimore has posted over her last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Elly Sparks, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
West Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
West Central is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Caston, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Caston hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like West Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
