Softball Recap: Bourne Comes Up Short

Bourne extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 15 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They lost 22-1 to the Case Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 30-0 back in April.

Bourne saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michaela Muldoon, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Case, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games.

On Case's side, Cailyn Durand was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Durand has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Breanna Fontes, who fired off three home runs and seven RBI while going 4-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Skye Dupre was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and four RBI.

Coming up, Bourne will square off against Greater New Bedford RVT at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Case, they will head out on the road to face off against West Bridgewater at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.31 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
