Baseball Recap: Gulliver Prep Falls Short of St. Brendan in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Gulliver Prep can now relate to. They fell just short of the St. Brendan Sabres by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Raiders of the 7-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Chase Cherne put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Jacob Lombard and Justin Parson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Lombard went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Parson went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Lombard is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as he's now launched at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Julian Herrera, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Gulliver Prep's loss dropped their record down to 6-21. As for St. Brendan, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-11.

Gulliver Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Brendan, they will square off against Killian at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Sabres surely won't give up without a fight.
