Basketball Recap: Chaston Brown Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Veterans

Northside hadn't done well against Veterans recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Northside Eagles secured a 62-57 W over the Veterans Warhawks. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Warhawks back in December of 2024, they had to take a 82-63 defeat.

Northside's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chaston Brown, who went 8 for 9 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and six blocks. The dominant performance gave Brown a new career-high in blocks. Another player making a difference was Jordan Gaines, who went 7 of 12 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Northside was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Several Warhawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tristen Abner, who posted nine points along with eight boards and seven assists. Abner has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last nine times he's played. Jaivyon Dawson was another key player, going 6 for 11 on his way to 16 points.

Northside's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Veterans, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-10.

Northside will venture away from home to face off against Lee County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lee County will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Northside surely won't give up without a fight. As for Veterans, they will welcome Tift County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Veterans' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups.
