Baseball Recap: Rhea County Comes Up Short

If Rhea County was feeling good fresh off their 19-1 takedown of Sale Creek last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Golden Eagles fell just short of the Walker Valley Mustangs by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost five in a row.

Alex Latshaw was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those five hits allowed gave him a new career-low.

On the hitting side, Casen Kinney was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

Rhea County's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Walker Valley, their win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-7.

While Rhea County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
