Softball Recap: El Segundo Starts off Right with Win over Notre Dame (SO)

El Segundo had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Notre Dame (SO) Knights on Wednesday. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 8-5 win the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Jacy Lindsay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on nine hits.

At the plate, El Segundo let Sullivan McLaughlin and Marilyn McCaverty run wild. McLaughlin fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3, while McCaverty went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. The dominant performance gave McLaughlin a new career-high in home runs. Allie Stevenson was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.

El Segundo wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 15-3 victory against Culver City on the 20th. As for Notre Dame (SO), they will venture away from home to take on Chatsworth at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
