Softball Game Preview: Monroe Cheesemakers vs. Turner Trojans

The Monroe Cheesemakers will square off against the Turner Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Monroe is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

Monroe took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Brodhead, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cheesemakers had just enough and edged out the Cardinals 6-5.

Meanwhile, Turner got themselves on the board against Delavan-Darien on Tuesday, but Delavan-Darien never followed suit. They blew past the Comets 12-0. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Comets recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Maddyn Saunders made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Jayla Jackson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Cacee Carl was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Turner's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
