Baseball Recap: Grace Christian Wins Going Away Against Ruskin Christian

Grace Christian had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Ruskin Christian on Tuesday. The Patriots blew past the Warriors 12-1. Considering the Patriots have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ian Johns spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Grace Christian's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Grace Christian let Ethan Heruska and Benjamin Fanelli run wild. Heruska went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Fanelli went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Fanelli a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Perez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Grace Christian's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Ruskin Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4-1.

Coming up, Grace Christian will square off against St. Edmund Prep at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.64 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. Ruskin Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
