Basketball Recap: Ethan Bass' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Aucilla Christian over Liberty County

Aucilla Christian managed to keep up with Liberty County until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Aucilla Christian Warriors came up short against the Liberty County Bulldogs, falling 79-58. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 663rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 268th).

Aucilla Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ethan Bass, who posted 19 points in addition to five assists and five steals. Bass is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last five games he's played. Caine Demott was another key player, going 5 for 9 en route to 14 points.

Liberty County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kashon Chambers, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That's the most boards Chambers has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gustavo Rubio, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 20 points and three steals.

Aucilla Christian's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7. As for Liberty County, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-1.

Aucilla Christian will face off against Countryside Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Aucilla Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season. As for Liberty County, they will square off against Malone at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Malone is on a six-game streak of home wins, Liberty County a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
