Softball Recap: Hillsboro Takes a Loss

After flying high against Life Waxahachie last Tuesday, Hillsboro came back down to earth. The Eagles lost 20-9 to the Venus Bulldogs on Thursday. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 8-5.

Laci Forns made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brynlie Vantreese, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Hillsboro's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Venus, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6-1 record this season.

Hillsboro is taking a road trip to take on Kennedale at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.54 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Venus, they will host Godley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
