Softball Recap: Harlingen Wins Going Away Against Los Fresnos

Harlingen hadn't beaten Los Fresnos on the road since April 12, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. Harlingen put the hurt on Los Fresnos with a sharp 12-2 victory. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.

Jozalin Bravo made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Bravo was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kim Lara was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Amaris Gomez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Harlingen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Harlingen and bumps their season record up to 13-9. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 5-11-1 Hanna and 10-11-1 Los Fresnos. As for Los Fresnos, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-11-1 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Harlingen is set to square off against their familiar foe San Benito at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Los Fresnos will challenge rival Hanna at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
