Basketball Recap: Northfield Comes Up Short

Northfield and Riverdale Ridge squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Northfield had to settle for second. The matchup between the Northfield Nighthawks and the Riverdale Ridge Ravens didn't end well, with the Northfield Nighthawks falling 74-55. The Nighthawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Northfield lost, don't look at Aliyah Herron. Despite the final result, she shot 42% from the field en route to 21 points. Herron is becoming a predictor of Northfield's success: when she posts at least 20 points the team is 4-1 (and 8-10 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Delaney Dennis, who posted eight points and seven rebounds.

Northfield's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Riverdale Ridge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Northfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Riverdale Ridge, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Ravens take on the Eagles on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Broomfield sitting on 13 straight victories and Riverdale Ridge on 12.
