But then Delpit announced he'll play his senior season at IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), a popular destination for the nation's elite.

The country's No. 114 top recruit overall and 11th best safety, according to 247Sports Composite, announced "after much consideration," he's leaving Lamar (Houston, Texas) to enroll at the prestigious private academy.

With Delpit, IMG Academy now claims 10 of the top 138 players from the Class of 2017. Among those is the nation's No. 9 receiver Jhamon Ausbon, another Houston resident, and quarterback Kellen Mond, a Baylor commit, San Antonio resident and No. 103 recruit overall.

The Texas-to-Florida connection sparked a national debate last month triggered by comments written in a magazine article by Brenham coach Glen West, the President of the Texas High School Coaches Association.

Delpit is 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds. He has 27 offers, but 247Sports' Crystal Ball predicts he'll land at LSU. He'll join a pair of Ohio State commits, safety Isaiah Pryor and cornerback Marcus Williamson in IMG's secondary.
