Serena Thurman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
East Burke not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 11th. They blew past Newton-Conover 10-0. With that win, the Cavaliers brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
The result came thanks to Heaven Waycaster's shutout, as she gave up just a hit.
On the hitting side, Raegan Carter and Kyndal Morrison did most of the damage at the plate: Carter went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Morrison scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those five RBI gave Carter a new career-high. Amanda McLean was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
East Burke always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
With the victory, East Burke broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-10. As for Bunker Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
East Burke's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Bunker Hill has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for East Burke, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Bunker Hill keep running through batters, or will the Cavaliers buck the trend?
Everything went Bunker Hill's way against East Burke in their previous meeting back in March, as Bunker Hill made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
