Softball Recap: Blacksburg Gets the Win

Blacksburg lost to William Byrd back in March of 2020, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. Blacksburg came out on top against William Byrd by a score of 8-3.

Clara McMahon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. McMahon was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Blacksburg let Aubrey Hudgins and Sydney Deane run wild. Hudgins scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Deane scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Deane a new career-high in RBI (two).

The victory got Blacksburg back to even at 1-1. As for William Byrd, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Blacksburg will host Radford at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for William Byrd, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hidden Valley at 7:00 p.m. on April 1.
