Basketball Recap: Deandre Lott-Hancock Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Indianapolis Shortridge

On Thursday, the Avon Orioles strolled past the Indianapolis Shortridge Blue Devils with points to spare, taking the game 70-51. Given the Orioles' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while the Blue Devils are ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Avon to victory, but perhaps none more so than DeAndre Lott-Hancock, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Lott-Hancock is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Jedidiah Minnett was another key player, shooting 57% from the field en route to 21 points and three steals.

Indianapolis Shortridge's loss came despite strong showings from Elijah Wilson and Jordan Yates. Wilson posted 19 points and six boards, while Yates made all 5 shots he took to post 10 points. Another player making a difference was TJ Davis, who had six points and seven rebounds.

Avon pushed their record up to 20-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points over those games. As for Indianapolis Shortridge, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-15.

Avon and Indianapolis Shortridge are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Avon will challenge Brownsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brownsburg is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season. As for Indianapolis Shortridge, they will face off against Purdue Polytechnic at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Indianapolis Shortridge has given up an average of 62.9 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.
