Basketball Game Preview: Johnson Jaguars vs. Brandeis Broncos

Two dominant guards in Daryl Banks and Finley Montoya are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Johnson Jaguars will be playing at home against the Brandeis Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Johnson sitting on seven straight wins and Brandeis on three.

Johnson is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Clark: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Johnson blew Clark out of the water with a 79-44 final score. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 45-17.

Meanwhile, Brandeis posted their closest victory since December 5, 2024 on Saturday. They skirted past Reagan 60-58.

Brandeis had a senior duo take command as Sean Tisdall went 8 for 17 on his way to 21 points and six rebounds and Montoya went 7 of 9 en route to 20 points. Tisdall's morning made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Connor Garcia was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to nine assists and six boards.

Johnson is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points per game. As for Brandeis, their win bumped their record up to 17-9.

Johnson was able to grind out a solid victory over Brandeis in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, winning 63-54. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Montoya, who went 9 for 16 on his way to 22 points and five rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Johnson still be able to contain Montoya? There's only one way to find out.
