Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Roanoke Rapids' Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Roanoke Rapids got themselves on the board against Franklinton on Thursday, but Franklinton never followed suit. They blew past the Red Rams 6-0. Considering the Yellowjackets have won five games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Lydia Carroll was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Makenna Whitley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Carroll wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Roanoke Rapids kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Roanoke Rapids has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Franklinton and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Roanoke Rapids will square off against Southern Nash at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern Nash will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something Roanoke Rapids surely won't give up without a fight. As for Franklinton, they will take on Nash Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nash Central has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.82 runs per game on average), something Franklinton will no doubt try to take advantage of.
