Basketball Recap: Tuscarawas Valley Comes Up Short

If Tuscarawas Valley was riding high fresh off their 72-28 takedown of Tuscarawas Central Catholic last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tuscarawas Valley Trojans took a 46-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the River View Black Bears.

Despite the loss, Tuscarawas Valley still got an impressive performance from Brody May, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. May is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last 14 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Izaak Matthews, who posted eight points.

River View's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Wesney, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 12 points. Parker Andrews was another key player, going 5-for-11 to rack up 11 points.

Tuscarawas Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.5 points over those games. The victory snapped River View's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-13 record.

Tuscarawas Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for River View, they have already played their next game, a 58-50 loss against Coshocton on the 26th.
