Baseball Recap: Mandarin Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Mandarin took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against St. Augustine, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mandarin Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets on Wednesday. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered a 10-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Zach Bouchard tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, Mandarin's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was CJ Murphy, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Mandarin is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for St. Augustine and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mandarin will take on Andrew Jackson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Augustine, they will challenge St. Joseph Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Joseph Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
