Preview: Bovina Mustangs vs. Vega Longhorns
Bovina is 2-8 against Vega since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bovina Mustangs will look to defend their home court against the Vega Longhorns at 8:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Bovina posted their biggest win since December 18, 2023 on Friday. They breezed by Boys Ranch on the road to the tune of 60-30. The victory was just what Bovina needed coming off of a 82-32 defeat in their prior matchup.
Bovina's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Yandel Deleon, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Deleon has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Herrera, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Vega was able to grind out a solid win over Panhandle on Friday, taking the game 45-37. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Vega.
Bovina's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-13. As for Vega, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Bovina couldn't quite finish off Vega in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 52-49. Can Bovina avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
