Soccer Game Preview: Emerald vs. Strom Thurmond

Emerald is a perfect 3-0 against Strom Thurmond since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. Emerald's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for five straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Emerald is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Fountain Inn on Monday. The Vikings fell just short of the Fury by a score of 1-0.

Meanwhile, Strom Thurmond hadn't done well against Batesburg-Leesville recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way two weeks ago. The Rebels never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. The victory was some much needed relief for Strom Thurmond as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Anderson Escalante, who's now up to ten this season.

Strom Thurmond's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Emerald, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

Emerald took their victory against Strom Thurmond in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 4-0 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
