Softball Game Preview: Alcorn Central Bears vs. Walnut Wildcats

The Alcorn Central Bears will head out to challenge the Walnut Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alcorn Central will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

On Friday, Alcorn Central had just enough and edged out New Albany 5-3.

Sydnee Norman made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on McKinley Byrd, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last ten matchups. Journey Phillips was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Alcorn Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Albany only managed six hits.

Meanwhile, Walnut posted their closest victory since April 20, 2024 on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Smithville 7-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Maddie Wilburn was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Meeks, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Alcorn Central's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Walnut, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
