Baseball Recap: Lordsburg Wins Going Away Against Jemez Valley

Lordsburg won the last time they faced Jemez Valley and things went their way on Saturday too. Lordsburg put the hurt on Jemez Valley with a sharp 12-2 win. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.

Isaac Murillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Lordsburg is undefeated when Murillo posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, Lordsburg got a massive performance out of David Valarde, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Victor Valdez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Lordsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jemez Valley only posted an OBP of .048.

The victory made it two in a row for Lordsburg and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Jemez Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Looking ahead, Lordsburg will square off against Hatch Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jemez Valley, they are taking a road trip to take on Bloomfield at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
