Football Recap: KIPP Newark Lab Starts Season with Loss at Home

KIPP Newark Lab unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 24-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Newark Central Blue Devils on Tuesday.

Taylor Jones continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Newark Central, rushing for 183 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Jones' longest rush was for an impressive 65 yards, which helps to explain her lofty yards per carry total.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Newark Central, bringing their record up to 4-1.

KIPP Newark Lab and Newark Central will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Sharks see the field they'll take on Weequahic at 4:30 p.m. on the 29th. As for Newark Central, their break will end when they face West Side at 4:00 p.m. on the 28th.
