Baseball Recap: Copper Canyon Drops Highest Score of Season Against Sierra Linda

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Copper Canyon). They put the hurt on the Sierra Linda Bulldogs with a sharp 16-1 victory on Tuesday. With that win, the Aztecs brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Emmanuel Manjarrez Beltran made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jesus Vega was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Ruelas, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI.

Copper Canyon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sierra Linda only posted an OBP of .200.

Copper Canyon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra Linda, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Copper Canyon will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
