Soccer Game Preview: Gateway vs. Lake Minneola

The Gateway Panthers will face off against the Lake Minneola Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Gateway's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Poinciana as Gateway made off with a 5-0 win. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Eagles are ranked 395th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gateway hit Poinciana with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Santiago Rodriguez (2), Jose Calderon, Dylan Hargreaves, and Alejandro Rivero.

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last game, Lake Minneola made sure to put some goals up on the board against South Sumter on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by an 8-0 margin over the Raiders. The result kept the Hawks happy, as they haven't lost a game since December 12, 2024.

Lake Minneola now has a winning record of 4-3-3. As for Gateway, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-1.

Gateway took their win against Lake Minneola in their previous matchup back in November of 2023 by a conclusive 6-1. Will Gateway repeat their success, or does Lake Minneola have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
