Softball Recap: Elysian Fields Victorious

Elysian Fields's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Waskom Wildcats by a score of 16-11. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Layla Adkins was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and eight unearned) runs off four hits. Adkins was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julie Lowery, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madi Owens, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Elysian Fields picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-19. As for Waskom, they dropped their record down to 5-14 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Wildcats beat Elysian Fields by a score of 12-10 on Friday.
