Basketball Game Preview: Wayne Badgers vs. Kanab Cowboys

Wayne hasn't had much luck against Kanab recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wayne Badgers will head out to take on the Kanab Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Kanab will be up against a hot Wayne squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Wayne walked away with a 63-55 win over Piute on Thursday.

Makayla Jones was a one-woman wrecking crew for Wayne as she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ VanDyke, who posted 17 points and seven boards.

Wayne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, after a string of 12 wins, Kanab's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to South Sevier 59-55.

Wayne pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points per game. As for Kanab, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-2.

Wayne took a serious blow against Kanab when the teams last played back in November of 2023, falling 73-32. Can Wayne avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
