The Richmond Red Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Northeastern Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Richmond is looking for their season's first victory.
Winchester Community hit Richmond with a five-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Devils fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 11-10. On the bright side, the ten- run effort marked the Red Devils' highest-scoring game to date.
Macey Barker led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Brown, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Northeastern made easy work of Union County on Wednesday and carried off an 8-1 win. Considering the Knights have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Zella Cook made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cook was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karri Gammon, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Kelsie Culbertson was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
The victory made it two in a row for Northeastern and bumps their season record up to 6-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Richmond, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Richmond might still be hurting after the 19-0 loss they got from Northeastern when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
