Basketball Recap: Steinbrenner Takes a Loss

Steinbrenner and East Lake squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Steinbrenner had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the East Lake Eagles and fell 74-34. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 566th, while the Eagles are ranked 119th).

East Lake was led to victory by Jordan Bryant and Jeremiah Cooper. Bryant dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 boards, while Cooper went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 18 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Bryant has been hot for a while, having also posted four or more blocks the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Andre Willis, who went 7 of 15 en route to 17 points.

Steinbrenner has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season. As for East Lake, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

Steinbrenner does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for East Lake, they will take on Sickles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sickles knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully East Lake likes a good challenge.
