Basketball Game Preview: Hutchison Hawks vs. Delta Huskies

Hutchison hasn't had much luck against Delta recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Hutchison Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Delta Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Hutchison will be strutting in after a victory while Delta will be coming in after a defeat.

Hutchison took a loss when they played away from home back in January, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed two weeks ago. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Nikiski 78-27. The game marked the Hawks' most dominant win of the season so far.

Hutchison found their leader in sophomore Charles Lissow, who went 8 of 11 to rack up 24 points in addition to five assists and five steals. Thanks to that strong game, Lissow now owns an excellent 50% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Cayden Roberts, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten assists.

Hutchison was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Delta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a blow against Barrow, falling 67-39. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Whalers are ranked 23rd).

Delta's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Hutchison, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.

Hutchison was able to grind out a solid win over Delta in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 48-36. Does Hutchison have another victory up their sleeve, or will Delta turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
