Softball Recap: Donovan Takes Down St. Anne in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Donovan rose to the challenge on Monday. They put the hurt on the St. Anne Cardinals with a sharp 10-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Laylah Lou Walters was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Bailey Henneike was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Madelyn Loy was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Donovan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Donovan's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-13. As for St. Anne, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-19.

As of now, neither Donovan nor the Cardinals have any future games scheduled.
