Basketball Recap: Pleasant Valley Piles Up the Points Against Shasta

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pleasant Valley had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed past the Shasta Wolves to the tune of 70-42. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while the Wolves are ranked 638th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pleasant Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keith Thompson, who en route to 24 points and seven boards. Thompson continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Sanchez, who to rack up 12 points in addition to eight assists and eight rebounds.

Pleasant Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Pleasant Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Shasta and nudges their season record down to 12-17.

Coming up, Pleasant Valley will square off against Enterprise at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Shasta does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
