Preview: Capistrano Valley Cougars vs. San Clemente Tritons

Capistrano Valley is on a four-game streak of home wins, while San Clemente is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Capistrano Valley Cougars will take on the San Clemente Tritons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Capistrano Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 81st, while San Clemente is ranked 13th).

Last Friday, things could have been worse for Capistrano Valley, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 37-22 loss to Tesoro.

The losing side was boosted by Tommy Acosta, who rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 196 yards and a touchdown while completing 87% of his passes. Acosta is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last four games he's played.

Meanwhile, San Clemente earned a 20-10 victory over Mission Viejo on Friday.

Aiden Rubin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 238 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Rubin is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last seven games he's played. Max (fernando) gonzales made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Having lost for the first time this season, Capistrano Valley fell to 7-1. San Clemente has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in seven of their first eight matchups, giving them a 7-1 record.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Capistrano Valley has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 177.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like San Clemente struggles in that department as they've been even better at 224.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Capistrano Valley took a serious blow against San Clemente in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 51-7. Will Capistrano Valley have more luck at home instead of on the road?
