Meanwhile, Maeser Prep Academy made easy work of Freedom Prep Academy on Friday and carried off a 22-4 win. The Lions have beaten the Eagles the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.
Corbin Turner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Jonny Mitchell and Tom Jackson did most of the damage at the plate: Mitchell went a perfect 1-for-1 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Jackson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Mitchell a new career-high. Logan Sollami was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Maeser Prep Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .579. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .371 or higher in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Draper APA's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Maeser Prep Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Draper APA took their win against Maeser Prep Academy when the teams last played back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 20-8 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
