Preview: Springfield Longhorns vs. Kit Carson Wildcats
Two dominant in Lainee Leathers and Avery Johnson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Springfield Longhorns will play host again and welcome the Kit Carson Wildcats, where tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Springfield posted their biggest win since December 1, 2023 last Friday. They really took it to Primero for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-19 win at home. The victory was just what Springfield needed coming off of a 56-27 defeat in their prior contest.
Springfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karina Garcia, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bay Ellis, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Kit Carson had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They put the hurt on Granada with a sharp 51-28 win. 51 seems to be a good number for Kit Carson as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
It was another big night for Payge Booker-rady, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Kit Carson, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
